Planet Fitness Opens! | Cambridge
With New Year’s resolutions still fresh in people’s minds, Planet Fitness is opening a new location in Porter Square this week.
After closing its last location inside the Porter Square Galleria back in 2013, the club is re-entering the Porter Square market at 1815 Massachusetts Ave. inside University Hall on Lesley University, just around the corner from its old digs.
The 15,000-square-foot club, which is slated to open Jan. 31, is below ground, and features the following amenities in its “Judgement Free Zone.”
- 70 pieces of cardio equipment, each with its own built-in TV featuring DIRECTV service
- Strength and free weights equipment
- Free fitness training
- Private stretching and abs area
- Locker rooms with day lockers and showers
- Private tanning salon with booths and beds
- Massage chairs
The club will be open 24 hours a day Monday through Thursday, closing at 10 p.m. on Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
“We made the decision to close the original Planet Fitness in Porter Square back in December 2013 as it did not meet our brand standards at the time,” said McCall Gosselin, Planet Fitness vice president of public relations and communications, in a written statement. “We are excited to re-enter the market with one of our long-standing franchise partners who will own and operate this new location.”
Sign up at planetfitness.com or at the presale space (located below street level, next to where the club will open) for only $1 down and then $10 a month with no annual commitment from now through Feb. 4. The presale office is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
